InterHeritage: Interactive Interfaces for Construction Heritage

Every historic building, fortification, or industrial complex is really two things at once: a physical space, and a sprawling, messy archive of drawings, records, terminology, and measurements that piles up around it for centuries. Making sense of that archive, so researchers and domain experts can dive into it, understand it more deeply, and build on it, is an open interaction design problem, and so is turning specialised content that is normally locked away in reading rooms into something a curious member of the public could actually enjoy exploring. A related, less visible problem sits upstream: the interfaces and spaces through which researchers themselves gather this data in the first place, which then need to be organised and navigated as the collection grows. Solutions to both problems span a wide spectrum of established and emerging techniques, which this workshop treats as open rather than settled in advance. This workshop brings the ISS community together with construction historians and heritage practitioners to map that spectrum, using Turin's own layered constructional heritage, and the EUROGLOSS COST Action (CA24102) coordinated at Politecnico di Torino, as a concrete grounding case. Structured as a half-day, seminar-style event, the workshop aims to surface open problems, and start a community around them, for the ISS field to take further. The workshop is organized in cooperation with the Archivio di Stato di Torino.
