Full functional test, data management, machine learning and automatization of the Cubesat Control Centre: moving towards the operations phase of an educational ground station

In recent years, the accessibility of CubeSat missions has significantly improved, yet operational autonomy remains a challenge for many university teams. The CubeSat Team Polito at Politecnico di Torino continues to address this by further developing its CubeSat Control Centre (C3), an in-house ground station designed for end-to-end satellite mission operations. Building on the previous phase, this work presents the latest advancements, focusing on the installation of the antenna system on t...

Testing and integration of the S-Band chain on the Cubesat Control Centre

With the constant demand for higher data rates to accommodate increasingly sophisticated and high-performance payloads on CubeSats, the need to migrate toward less congested frequency bands and wider bandwidth allocations are becoming increasingly evident. In this context, as the development of the ground infrastructure - the CubeSat Control Centre (C3) — approaches its final stages, the CubeSat PoliTO Team at Politecnico di Torino is focusing on the testing and finalization of the S-band co...

Space, body, knowledge: spatial navigation and embodiment for the dissemination of historical collections of wooden models for structural engineering

In recent years, the digitisation of cultural and academic heritage has gradually shifted from the simple development of static three-dimensional models towards the creation of interoperable and dynamic information ecosystems, capable of integrating diverse data to support preventive conservation, research and public outreach (Cerullo et al, 2023). In this context, the Curioni Collection of wooden models, commissioned by Professor Giovanni Curioni, lecturer in civil engineering at the Royal S...

Transforming the urban environment into knowledge: surveying, mapping and digital navigation of the Ex OGM-site in Turin

This paper investigates urban surveying as a process of translation through which the experience of space is progressively converted into structured knowledge. Moving beyond the conventional conception of surveying as a simple data acquisition activity, this research interprets it as a cognitive practice capable of mediating between perception, representation and understanding of the built environment. From this perspective, the transition from physical reality to digital representation invol...

Photoacoustic characterization of an ultrasound-transparent high-density surface EMG array

We present a photoacoustic characterization of a high-density, ultrasound-transparent surface EMG electrode array designed for multimodal biomedical imaging. While such electrodes have been shown to preserve ultrasound image quality, their interaction with photoacoustic signals has remained unexplored. Using a tissue-mimicking phantom with embedded absorbers, we evaluated signal transmission through the electrode array across wavelengths from 690 to 950 nm. Signal-to-noise ratio analysis reve...
