Il territorio del casalese e le sue trasformazioni

Beginning in the late 19th century, the territory of Casale Monferrato (Alessandria, Piedmont) experienced significant changes due to development of industrial activities in cement and lime production. Since the late 1950s, the ongoing closure of the large part of the factories, due to the depletion of natural deposits and simultaneous initiation of production of artificial cements, has led to further modification of the territory. The recognition of the transformational processes which involved these places and the readability of the evidences of the cement culture, which characterize them, require analysis and dissemination of the related graphic and photographic documentation. These accomplishments would assist in the diachronic reading of the landscape and the understanding of the significance and value of much evidence still found in the area, as well as the transmission of the landscape palimpsest for the future.
