Seismic and Structural Analysis of a Historical Building Registered as Cultural Heritage in Turin, Italy

This study briefly presents the methodology applied for the seismic and structural analysis performed on an interesting case study. This study is based on an advanced numerical assessment of the existing building in its current 'as-is' conditions. The structure under investigation was built between the end of the 40s and the beginning of the 50s of the 20th century. The large L-shaped building includes a western wing, recently renewed, and an eastern wing, due to renovation. Importantly, the historical building is officially listed by the Superintendence for Archaeology, Fine Arts and Landscape of the Turin metropolitan area (SABAP-TO) and, therefore, subject to the constraints set by the Italian Ministry of Cultural Heritage. To this aim, a survey campaign was conducted in spring/summer 2024, revealing a mixed structural system, with load-bearing walls in unreinforced masonry externally and reinforced concrete (R.C.). beams and columns internally, resting on strap footings. The structure also includes an overpass, which connects it directly to a similar building of circa the same age on the other side of the road.
