The paper presents an ad-hoc hardware design that integrates a CMOS camera in a Multimedia Wireless Sensor Node for smart farming. The complete control of CMOS camera operations, together with an efficient image acquisition, guarantees to take pictures with improved quality. Moreover, the integration of all hardware components on a single and compact PCB permits the realization of non-invasive, small form-factor Sensor Nodes. Prototypes are being manufactured, installed and tested in three vineyards during growing season 2015. All devices have shown effectiveness and reliability for what concerns energy efficiency, radio propagation and image quality.

Abstract
The paper presents an ad-hoc hardware design that integrates a CMOS camera in a Multimedia Wireless Sensor Node for smart farming. The complete control of CMOS camera operations, together with an efficient image acquisition, guarantees to take pictures with improved quality. Moreover, the integration of all hardware components on a single and compact PCB permits the realization of non-invasive, small form-factor Sensor Nodes. Prototypes are being manufactured, installed and tested in three vineyards during growing season 2015. All devices have shown effectiveness and reliability for what concerns energy efficiency, radio propagation and image quality.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
