ITU-T standardization activities on Passive Optical Networks (PON) are currently considering the option of moving to coherent transmission technology as an option for future 200G-PON standards. We review in this invited paper the resulting PROs and CONs of the use of coherent in PON, with a specific focus on its use in all-optical metro-access convergence. We also give some hints on the prospect of higher speed BiDi PtP transceivers in access.

Abstract
ITU-T standardization activities on Passive Optical Networks (PON) are currently considering the option of moving to coherent transmission technology as an option for future 200G-PON standards. We review in this invited paper the resulting PROs and CONs of the use of coherent in PON, with a specific focus on its use in all-optical metro-access convergence. We also give some hints on the prospect of higher speed BiDi PtP transceivers in access.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
