Abstract (English) This paper examines the role of landscape as a heritage resource for rural development through the experiences of the Interreg Europe MOMAr (Models of Management for Singular Rural Heritage) project (2019–2023). Framed within European cohesion policy, the study explores how cultural and natural heritage can be strategically managed as an endogenous resource to address challenges such as depopulation, aging communities, and underutilization of rural assets. The article adopts a landscape-based and holistic approach to heritage management, emphasizing the integration of spatial planning, sustainability, and community participation. It analyses selected good practices from different European regions—particularly the Netherlands, the Czech Republic, and Spain—highlighting innovative governance models, collaborative processes, and adaptive reuse strategies that link heritage conservation with economic, social, and territorial development. Special attention is given to concepts such as spatial quality, cultural landscape, and heritage as a driver (or “vector”) for sustainable development, as well as to management tools like Destination Management Organizations and Cultural Parks. The findings demonstrate that inclusive, multi-actor governance and context-sensitive planning are key to ensuring the long-term sustainability and relevance of rural heritage landscapes. The MOMAr project provides transferable lessons and policy insights for other European regions seeking to leverage landscape and heritage as catalysts for rural regeneration.
