The paper reconstructs the historical relationship between the results of scientific research in the humanities and the data used as primary input, to understand the method and to actualize it with the Open Science principles. The main difficulties in managing data through good practice lie in the replication of research, in this essay applied in the fields of restoration and architectural history. The model presented at the end of the essay is a first step in the creation of an interpretative model updated to Open Science principles. It focuses on the creation of a structured database collecting past and future survey data for Turin's monumental church of San Lorenzo.
