The aim of the Council of Europe for certificating the cultural routes between the member states of the Union is the evaluation of the potential of one landscape through a development project which provides for that landscape social, cultural and economic development. The established cultural heritage can be the key and vital element for making different interests interact and become an opportunity to set guidelines that define the landscape. We choose to deal with the island of Eubèa and the fortifications in the period of Venetian domination (XIII-XV cent), especially focusing on the system of the Towers that are now scattered in an agricultural landscape where only some parts of them are still perceptible by the human eye. The heritage is very diversified especially concerning its composition, degradation and the use. The difficulty of dealing with numerous fortifications such as those of Eubèa, which are, at a great extent decontextualized with respect to the urban and infrastructural transformation that has taken place, requires the evaluation of the potentiality of each fortification and all the available resources. Nowadays, is it possible to establish a cultural route that takes advantage of this heritage? This article outlines the first hypotheses on how to activate this historical wealth which still formally characterizes that place.
