Abstract
In this study, we investigate the effect of the interaction of tractor propellers in a distributed propulsion configuration with a lifting surface. A numerical framework is developed based on a Vortex Lattice Method lifting-line coupled with a Blade Element Momentum Theory model. An optimal distributed propulsion configuration is defined by implementing a genetic algorithm based approach, that is aimed at maximizing lift, propulsive efficiency and aerodynamic efficiency. This study was conducted over a multiple number of configurations of propellers, showing that a 10% increase in lifting capabilities is achievable with the use of distributed propulsion in a wing representative of a regional transport aircraft.Pubblicazioni consigliate
