Together with the codification of modern restoration theories, there also arose the need to communicate the importance of monuments and their conservation to the public. While the first initiatives were mostly related to popular writings, in which the fathers of the discipline ventured, the General Exhibitions allowed the possibility of presenting the masses with full-scale reproductions of historical architecture, taking them from real models. The Borgo Medioevale in Turin represented perhaps the first and most organic didactic system in this sense, which nevertheless diluted its effectiveness over time. It was only from the 1980s onwards that it was once again duly interpreted and, also thanks to the contribution of Carla Bartolozzi, became a methodological example for restoration and conservation.
