Heritage, memory, and identity are fundamental components of social history. This paper makes a case for the block museum concept by examining its implementation in Qingdao as a way to increase participation in the preservation of heritage. More extensive community engagement can evoke historical memory and identity, thereby stimulating the educational attributes of heritage, which offers new directions for conserving historic centers in other cities.
