Abstract
The city of Mainz, ancient Magontiacum, preserves the remains of a Roman theatre that has been excavated since the last century. After decades of neglect, the area has returned to the attention of archaeologists and the structures have been carefully analyzed. The process is still ongoing, while projects for the conservation and enhancement of this area are underway. At the same time, further south, outside the borders of the ancient Roman city, the remains of the probable amphitheater have been traced. Recent redevelopment interventions in the area have not allowed to expand the historical knowledge of this area and today there are still many questions. About documented historical and archaeological information, the city presents two sites that are very different in terms of context and historical urban development. These are linked together by the same construction period and the relative functional destinations. The contribution aims to investigate the knowledge, conservation and enhancement activities carried out in recent decades, showing the scenarios for the future. Interventions and transformations for the scientific analysis of archaeological assets, raising public awareness of the historical and memorial value of heritage.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
