We discuss recent soliton solutions in a class of D=4 supergravity theories. For suitable values of the parameters, the new configurations can be embedded in the gauged maximal N=8 theory and uplifted in the higher-dimensional D=11 theory. We also consider supersymmetric solutions and their stability, in light of the prescriptions of the positive energy theorem.
