This paper aims to discuss methodologies and approaches relating to the planning of conservation activities over time and wants to bring attention to procedures that have not yet been fully consolidated in operational practice, where a concrete innovation of the process continues to find some difficulties in implementation. Concerning the Piedmont where, except for the Sacred Mounts, the development of projects and initiatives has been capable of arousing the attention of institutions and highlighting little-explored issues only in recent years, we examine the system composed of the Crown of Delights of the Royal House of Savoy, which currently lacks strategic plans and operational tools aimed at the systematic application of preventive and planned conservation practices. The investigation of the “system” is appealing not only for the overall values and uniqueness of the individual properties but also for the complexity of the framework and the decision-makers, which affects the possible system strategies. Through the mapping of current policies and the analysis of stakeholders, we, therefore, discuss at first the possibility, in the future, of defining a shared protocol on the cultural system considered, based on the needs of the architectural dimension and the context in which the properties are located; at second, the experimentation of an impact assessment model, capable of highlighting the importance of the contribution of the built heritage to sustainability concerning cultural, social, environmental and economic implications.
