The introductory seminar “Resilience and Heritage” of the Master’s degree programmes in Architecture of the Politecnico di Torino developed teaching and scientific research on the emerging relationship between resilience and cultural heritage. The seminar, structured with an interdisciplinary approach that integrates the disciplines of Architectural Restoration and Urban Planning, aimed at cultivating knowledge and awareness to design resilience strategies within a cultural approach to sustainability. Reflecting and examining the concept of resilience was the starting point for discussing global dynamics and ongoing changes in cities and rural contexts. We assumed a territorial perspective to define the strengths and weaknesses of the archaeological site of Libarna, and later, we intertwined them with planning choices and stakeholder analysis. To define a comprehensive and exhaustive heritage value analysis, we carried out moments of participation and public debates to emphasise the role of local communities in envisaging future territorial scenarios promoting resilience. This research contributes to understanding how communities can foster resilience, underscoring the significance of comprehensive assessment approaches that incorporate planning tools analysis, community participation and stakeholders’ analysis. The outcome of envisaged scenarios can empower practitioners and policymakers to recognise the unique values of heritage sites within their territorial context.
