Sustainabilityandtheconceptofsustainabledevelopmentarecurrently adoptedasafoundingparadigmofglobal, national andregionaldevelopment strategies.Assuch,theynecessarilypermeatenewvisionsofurbandevelopment aswell,leadingtoreflectionsofeconomic,environmentalandsocialsustainability inurbanplanninganddesignpractices.Inthiscontext, thepaperaimstoreflect onthecapabilityandusefulnessofSeriousGamesinconveyingknowledgewith respect tothedevelopmentof sustainablecities tostudents, as futureplanners andarchitects inurbanareas.Suchgamesarepartof theseveralparticipatory approachesandmodelsofurbaninnovationandplanningandhaveanexplicitlyeducationalpurposewithrespect totacklingcomplexproblems.Giventheir increasingapplicationinthefieldofsustainability,but their limiteduseinthe contextofsustainablecities, thispaperexplorestwoseriousgames(Urbaxand urbEN),developedinurbanandterritorialsettingswithintwodifferentEuropean projects, toreflectontheirpotentialcapabilitytoconveyspecificwaysofaction andknowledgewithrespecttotheissuesconsideredinSustainableDevelopment Goal11(SDG11)ofAgenda2030.Theanalysisallowsobservingthatalthough thetwogameswerenotinitiallydesignedtoalignwithspecificSDG11targetsor conveyinformationonsustainablecities,bothdemonstratethepotentialcapability inspreadingspecificknowledgeforurbansustainability.
