Natural risk classification in historical centres of Italian inner areas

The paper intends to illustrate the first results of a research about the mitigation of the damages caused by natural risk in the small historical centres of Italian inner areas. The purpose is to develop a method of analysis and classification of natural risk, which provides the municipalities with a simple instrument to define the risk affecting the area and to allow them to plan efficient mitigation actions. The aim is to systemize the great amount of information needed to evaluate risk, to produce an intervention priority ranking, that shows where it is more urgent to operate, in which ways and how to manage the economic resources for prevention. Innovative elements are the multi-risk approach and the introduction of the minimum urban structure. results of the research show that activating prevention and mitigation actions against natural risk is urgent, particularly in those fragile territories of the Italian inner areas.
