This work deals with the identification of modal frequencies for an existing footbridge through an output only technique. The structure has a continuous curved girder and belongs to a frequently used structural system all around the world in urbanized areas. Consequently, the development of a suitable and effective monitoring is of paramount importance for guaranteeing continuous serviceability and safety. Long-gauge fiber optic strain sensors are installed along entire structure, including locations where local damages, or deteriorations, are expected. Besides, a wireless network monitoring system is under development to be applied in parallel to fiber optic one for a comprehensive assessment of the stiffer component (the main-span) of the bridge where only minor strains are registered by the fiber optic sensors.

Abstract
This work deals with the identification of modal frequencies for an existing footbridge through an output only technique. The structure has a continuous curved girder and belongs to a frequently used structural system all around the world in urbanized areas. Consequently, the development of a suitable and effective monitoring is of paramount importance for guaranteeing continuous serviceability and safety. Long-gauge fiber optic strain sensors are installed along entire structure, including locations where local damages, or deteriorations, are expected. Besides, a wireless network monitoring system is under development to be applied in parallel to fiber optic one for a comprehensive assessment of the stiffer component (the main-span) of the bridge where only minor strains are registered by the fiber optic sensors.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
