This study aims to develop the potential of fiber optic sensors when embedded in concrete elements. Four-point bending test of a reinforced concrete beam has been performed and the following issues have been investigated: temperature effects during early ages of strength development in concrete, crack detention and localization with FOS, movement of neutral axis during various stages of loading, comparison between distributed sensors and Digital Image Correlation – DIC.
