The texile industry of Chieri has constantly characterised the image of the city , so as to make it become the one with the richest industrial heritage of cotton production in Piedmont. Chieri has become an illustrious reality thanks to the production of an innovative material called Fustagno (Fustain) and the cultivation of Isatis tinctoria L., a plant whose roots can dye cloth whit a particular shade of blue.over the years, the city has developed a great urban and demographic expansion in the territory bringing to the present day, a dense growh of the urbanization . As a result of economics crisis , some textile buildings have been demolished and others reconvered with a different function there by changing the “face” of some portions of the historic centre. The city of Chieri is working on disused spaces through new conversion project s: the Caselle area is an opportunity to stimulate textile art and historical memory as an urban archetype, an essential and decisive step to bring back to the city the image and trace of the historical memory of Chieri, interpreting in a modern key the history of this area.
