From the ‘70s, the safeguard of the landscape and intangible heritage become an important topic within the cultural debate due to the problems of historical landscape: the passage of time led to carelessness of certain areas and allowed the development of different forms of degradation. Referring to what is stated at the beginning of the Sixth Lamp, it is spontaneous to wonder what pain our ancestors would have felt if they had known «that all that they had treasured would end in contempt and the places that had offered them refuge and comfort would be dragged into the dust». For this reasons the study of Ruskin is very current and becomes fundamental to read and safeguard the particular memory values of anthropic landscapes. The essay proposed wants to relate the values of ruskinian memory that emerge from the Sixth Lamp to the territory of western south Piedmont, an important area for the richness of intangible heritage and for the variety of landscape that distinguishes it.
