Within a few decades, taking advantage of the topography of the place, one of the most important universities in Colombia was founded: a sequence of spaces was built, alternating with stairs, pavilions, lines of buildings, courtyards, a chapel and a railway carriage. Abstract
In 1948 in Bogotà, in one of the most evocative places in the city, a group of professionals decided to found a new university following North American pedagogical models. The place they chose, at the foot of Montserrat, had always had productive and proto-industrial characteristics, given its proximity to the Rio San Francisco. Within a few decades, taking advantage of the topography of the place, one of the most important universities in Colombia was founded: a sequence of spaces was built, alternating with stairs, pavilions, lines of buildings, courtyards, a chapel and a railway carriage. New buildings were designed which reinterpreted the existing buildings. The Campito de San Josè was founded in 1883 by the Congregation of the Sisters of Charity to house a convent and a hospital and later turned into an asylum. The area still called Campito today is a cluster of buildings with various functions, some built at the beginning of the 20th century, others more recent; some made in adobe and "caña brava", others in brick or reinforced concrete. Near the Campito, in 1922, a small church was built, with a single nave and a rectangular apsidal plan. In 1988 an independent metal structure was inserted and the chapel was made into a library. 1443File | Dimensione | Formato | |
