The Citadel of Turin is one of the first examples of Modern Age pentagonal fortification and model for other contemporary fortresses, mainly in Italy, France and Flanders. The Citadel assumed a decisive role in the favorable resolution of the siege of Turin in 1706, but many years later, a series of municipal deliberations underlined its inactivity, defensive inefficiency, and character of obstacle to urban expansion; then its off-ground structures was gradually dismantled from mid-nineteenth century. After the demolition, the interest of the scholars was particularly enlivened by works on urban history and history of the art of war. Among the numerous features considered by scholars, this paper highlights those related to the shape and dimensions of the Citadel which, not univocally interpreted, still today present some level of uncertainty. The author applies graphical analyses and reconstructive digital drawings to the most interesting archival drawings and scholars' reconstruction, and proposes different observations about: the irregularity of the external pentagon; the shape of the bastions, the presence of the second flank; the geometric relationship between the flank and the curtain.
