The “Anna Frank” school district in Giaveno – (Torino): the resurfacing of the ex seminar as new old town’s centrality design The most recent building of the archbishop’s ex seminar, located in Giaveno since the end of XVII century, represented an excellent spaces’ allocation, material and architectural quality since the years between the two world wars. Building of great architectural quality realized in masonry in not plastered bricks and ornamental stone made moldings, he was not compliant for what concern the seismic, energy saving legislation and emergency exit. The local administration, decided to create a new school district dedicated to the primary school, extended his recovering will, suggested by the designers’ team, to the implementation of a new viability that would allow to make the pedestrian access easier. Many accommodations of the site made possible to rediscover a piece of the old town lonely stretch up to that time. The work of rehabilitation took care to the maintenance of the aesthetical and formal values proposing at the same time a non-invasive operation of insulation, improvement of the indoor air quality and structural consolidation of the main through reinforced concrete septa. The hub between the historical building, the fire escape and the elevator tower was solved with steel structure while the new modern entry provides the connection with the new contemporary gatehouse.
