Vertical slot fishways are hydraulic structures that allow fish to pass over an obstacle. Several experimental tests have been performed, but fewer numerical simulations have been explored. The standard design of a vertical slot fishway and a modified version were investigated using CFD simulations, in order to simulate the turbulent flow field. In the standard design, the velocity and turbulent kinetic energy are higher than in the modified one; the jet is more direct between the slots, affecting the geometry of eddies formed in the pools.
