In recent years, the ever increasing attention towards a more detailed design and assessment of the energy and environmental performance of buildings has triggered an important process that has the aim of revising the metrics used that are used to evaluate the environmental quality and energy performances related to the daylighting design of buildings. The paper describes and critically analyses the new and traditional metrics used by experts and practitioners to study daylighting in interior spaces. The different information and the effectiveness of the different approaches in describing the daylighting performance of spaces are outlined through the analysis of some numerical results obtained for case studies characterized by different architectural features.

Abstract
In recent years, the ever increasing attention towards a more detailed design and assessment of the energy and environmental performance of buildings has triggered an important process that has the aim of revising the metrics used that are used to evaluate the environmental quality and energy performances related to the daylighting design of buildings. The paper describes and critically analyses the new and traditional metrics used by experts and practitioners to study daylighting in interior spaces. The different information and the effectiveness of the different approaches in describing the daylighting performance of spaces are outlined through the analysis of some numerical results obtained for case studies characterized by different architectural features.Pubblicazioni consigliate
