The aim of this study is to evaluate the environmental performance of the main bioplastics available on the food packaging market by adopting the Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) methodology. Furthermore, an Ecodesign approach has been adopted to highlight critical issues in the packaging sector, when bioplastics are used instead of traditional polymers.

Abstract
Bioplastics are assuming a crescent role in food packaging sector thanks to an increasing interest in sustainability.
