The use of conditioning agents that change the mechanical and hydraulic behaviour of a soil into a plastic paste is the key point for the correct management of EPB shield tunnelling. The design of soil conditioning sets and the choice of the best product require special laboratory tests. In the paper the different type of tests that can be used and their results are presented and discussed.
