This paper presents an investigation of the performance of Safety Of Life (SoL) services of the European Geostationary Navigation Overlay Service (EGNOS). The analysis is performed using a hardware and software platform named Sat-Surf and Sat-Surfer, developed to ease the research work on Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS). The paper describes the computation of safety thresholds from EGNOS augmentation Signal-In-Space (SIS) tailored to applications requiring a guaranteed level of accuracy and reliability, comparing the demanding scenario of aeronautical applications to other scenarios (e.g. road transport) in which a trade-off between integrity levels and accuracy can be achieved.
