Abstract

Eddy current effects are the base of electrodynamic bearings principle. The unique characteristic of electrodynamic bearings (EDB) of producing positive stiffness by passive means has made them an interesting topic of research in the last decades. Despite the promising characteristics of this type of bearings, rotors supported by EDBs are affected by different types of instabilities that must be taken into account. The paper presents a study of the dynamic behaviour of axial and radial electrody-namic suspensions for rotors, shedding light onto certain aspects of these systems that have not been illuminated in previous studies.
