The Chimera intelligent database prototype, designed in the context of the IDEA Esprit project, provides an object-oriented data model, deductive rules to express computations, and production rules to implement active reactions to database events. We present in this paper a high-level description of the main features of the Chimera conceptual interface, and we describe the design of the Energy Management System application in Chimera.
