The characterisation of a MSW by integration of geophysics, geotechnics and hydraulics was performed for a landfill mining project in Northern Italy. The preliminary assessment of the waste disposal was performed by electrical resistivity tomography and electromagnetic investigation. The geophysical survey allowed to map the vertical and horizontal distribution of electrical and electromagnetic parameters, related to the bio-chemical activities of the landfill. The geotechnical characterisation allowed to estimate the mechanical parameters of the waste with different age, compaction and bio-degradation conditions. The shear resistance parameter at low confining pressure and the confined deformability were estimated: a shear resistance of 25º-28º and a modulus of deformability of about 1 MPa were observed. The slug tests on some boreholes allowed to estimate the hydraulic conductivity in the range of 3.5·10 -6 and 1.0·10-5 m/s. The hydraulic conductivity appears very sensitive to the waste heterogeneity and the low values are related to the presence of strong heterogeneous materials and mud within the pore volume

Abstract
The hydraulic conductivity appears very sensitive to the waste heterogeneity and the low values are related to the presence of strong heterogeneous materials and mud within the pore volumePubblicazioni consigliate
