We propose a multiband passive filter in the microwave frequency range based on a strip-line technology metamaterial. The construction relies on 2D photonic band-gap surface realized by periodic repetition of a square shaped unit cell. The pattern impressed inside the unit cell has a novel structure introducing three electromagnetic band gaps ranging across of the first six modes of operation. The relatively large band-gaps, allowing to be controlled by the geometrical and material parameters of the unit cell, recommend the structure for applications as band-pass, band-stop or multiband filter or in sensor related applications. © 2011 IEEE.

Abstract
We propose a multiband passive filter in the microwave frequency range based on a strip-line technology metamaterial. The construction relies on 2D photonic band-gap surface realized by periodic repetition of a square shaped unit cell. The pattern impressed inside the unit cell has a novel structure introducing three electromagnetic band gaps ranging across of the first six modes of operation. The relatively large band-gaps, allowing to be controlled by the geometrical and material parameters of the unit cell, recommend the structure for applications as band-pass, band-stop or multiband filter or in sensor related applications. © 2011 IEEE.Pubblicazioni consigliate
