Ultrasonic pulse velocity measurements (UPV) could be a valid non-destructive test method to evaluate the decay of stone. In fact, this method only needs a portable instrument connected to laptop, short time of execution and, overall, it doesn’t cause damage to stone: so it can be used to evaluate the weathering variation performing the measurements on the same stone surface at different times both on monuments and buildings and on the same specimens in laboratory. To appreciate the decay of stone after repeated series of measurements, the influence of the error on the results of the UPV measurements connected with the weathering degree needs to be evaluate. Many tests have been performed on artificially decayed specimens. The aim of this work is to evaluate the influence of the error on the UPV measurements, taking into account the parameters conditioning the results, that is to say the dimensions and the time measurements accuracy. In the direct method, the influence of the weathering degree on first arrival time was studied in order to know when alteration can be evaluate.

Abstract
In the direct method, the influence of the weathering degree on first arrival time was studied in order to know when alteration can be evaluate.Pubblicazioni consigliate
