A classical inverse problem in fluid dynamics, i.e., determine the geometry of an airfoil given the aerodynamic load, is solved coupled to an adjoint optimization method. By the adjoint technique we determine the prescribed aerodynamic load so to maximize a given functional. As an example we design the loading of turbomachine bladings for maximum thrust, based on a simplified compressible flow model.
