Maintenability and accessibility: logistic advantages by application of 3D CAD digital mock-up technique

With this paper we conclude a three papers cycle begun with the one presented at SOLE 98 Annual Conference and continued with the second presented at SOLE 99 Annual Conference in Las Vegas. In particular with this third and final paper we want to show how the proposed methodology (with the task to consider logistic characteristics since the early design stages), if correctly applied, can help the designer in solving maintainability problems also; to do this we'll try to apply our methodology to a particular and very well defined environment like an aircraft. The product that we are going to consider as a case study, is an aircraft mounted accessory gear box (abb. AMAG). This item is going to be designed for an aircraft whose conceptual design has been developed in the Aerospace Dept. of Politecnico di Torino.
