Abstract

Hard carbon (HC) is the anode of choice for sodium-ion batteries, but biomass HCs bring a low first-cycle efficiency, sluggish Na⁺ kinetics and a microstructure that depends on the precursor. Using a marine biomass in the hydrothermal step with additional N-dopant and carbonization under ammonia atmosphere in a tubular furnace at 800 °C. Then we evaluated the electrochemical performance in a half-cell, along with CR2032 coin cell stress test and X-ray microCT.
