Located near Casale Corte Cerro, the Sanctuary of Getsemani – now abandoned – offers a unique case study on the collaboration between Catholic lay institutions and architects in mid-20th century Italy, as well as the destiny of religious buildings nowadays. Conceived by Luigi Gedda and designed by Ildo Avetta, the sanctuary merges sacred symbolism with Modernist architecture. It exemplifies how faith, art, and architecture intersected as ideological instruments within the Azione Cattolica movement.
