Greetings from.. is an exploratory format in which data visualization becomes a tool for a critical analysis of realities, sounds, scents, and rhythms. Developed within the framework of the Innovation Design Lab in Turin (Italy), the format follows the Systemic Innovation Design Methodology to create a databook, a structured system that transforms information into awareness, knowledge, and actionable insights. The methodology adopts holistic analysis as a virtuous process of collection, mapping, and visualization of data to describe a context or a territory. By presenting the case study Greetings from Naples, we emphasize the tool’s modularity: during the workshop, students with mixed backgrounds challenged themselves with data visualization using postcards as a medium and generating a collective databook. We discuss the implications and opportunities of the format as a replicable model for exploring and understanding urban contexts and facilitating impactful design strategies through insightful data visualization.
