Carlo Mollino e il progetto dello spazio per l’industria: l’espressione architettonica attraverso la sperimentazione costruttiva e strutturale

This essay investigates a historiographical gap in the critical-analytical investigation of Carlo Mollino’s work: industrial architecture, a design strand not yet systematically treated. Relying on archival documentation, is here proposed an in-depth study of the only two built projects in this typological field: the Officina Fratelli Bosio in Castiglione Torinese (1954-56) and the Officina Ricaldone in Turin (1956-57). By comparing these two case studies with Mollino’s other industrial projects, including unbuilt ones, it is possible to grasp some significant aspects of the relationship between the compositional and expressive choices adopted by the architect and the technical and constructive aspects of his design practice, thus opening up new research perspectives.
