The urban pressure in the megalopolis of Latin America is problematic for preserving historic urban heritage. In Guatemala City, its historical earthen heritage is often considered minor, thus having fewer safeguarding practices. This contribution aims to understand the lack of recognition of earthen heritage in the Guatemalan capital, analyze other Latin American case studies, and propose hybrid guidelines between top-down actions and heritage-making processes.
