Knowledge of cultural heritage is a social product, which means that it is a project in constant progress, with aims and working methods defined by specific clients in highly articulated socio-cultural contexts, supported by documentation databases that are as extensive and systematic as possible. The essay frames the potential and limits of existing survey sources, useful for planning a territorial knowledge of the heritage of religious interest, owned and managed by a plurality of entities.
