We present a thorough overview of the current state of Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage (CCUS) initiatives worldwide, from the early Nineties to 2023 (March). Leveraging data from the 2023 IEA (International Energy Agency) CCUS Projects Database, the report relies on a comprehensive data source and a meticulous search strategy to compile a detailed account of the evolution of CCUS projects over time and their geographical distribution, based on project status and the fate of carbon. Firstly, the report delves into the impact of environmental policies that support decarbonization efforts by analysing the policy frameworks in the United States, Canada, and Europe. We describe the intricate web of regulations, incentives, and initiatives driving CCUS adoption within these regions, providing a nuanced understanding of the policy landscape and how it is shaping the CCUS ecosystem. Second, we provide a granular examination of CCS projects, Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) projects, and Carbon Capture Utilization (CCU) projects, trying to highlight potential correlations between projects’ fate of carbon and the industrial sectors in which they are employed. Third, we conduct a thorough analysis of the GHG emission reduction achieved through CCUS projects. By quantifying the environmental impact, the report assesses the effectiveness of these initiatives in contributing to global decarbonization goals. Fourth, we analyse the company partnerships and the projects hubs to understand how, operationally, firms engage with CCUS projects, to what extent they cooperate with other companies, and what is the role of governments in their financing. By examining the topology and diffusion of project hubs, the report uncovers patterns and trends in how these hubs operate and disseminate across regions. Finally, we identify and profile the key industry leaders in CCUS projects, shedding light on companies that are more committed in enhancing technological progress and innovation in the CCUS industry.

Abstract
Finally, we identify and profile the key industry leaders in CCUS projects, shedding light on companies that are more committed in enhancing technological progress and innovation in the CCUS industry.Pubblicazioni consigliate
