Abstract

Urban areas are strongly affected by climate change, due to high emissions of greenhouse gases. The European Union, through the New Green Deal, aims to achieve climate neutrality by 2050, also harnessing nature-based solutions. This study identifies potential ecosystemic and productive opportunities in abandoned industrial areas, proposing hybrid regeneration strategies that combine nature with innovative technologies. Finally, the ecosystem services resulting from these holistic design choices, applied to architecture and urban design, are evaluated.
