Segni e disegni con l’anima: le architetture di Giulio Mondini

I disegni di Giulio Mondini hanno un’anima: un’anima che si configura sia nelle forme plastiche dei suoi progetti sia nei suoi stessi disegni, trovando vita nei movimenti e nelle vibrazioni di segni e colori che, con abilità espressiva e comunicativa, riverberano il vivace mutare dei suoi pensieri. Progetti e disegni, ma anche le opere d’arte che hanno affiancato l’attività professionale di architetto e di professore universitario di Estimo, testimoniano le sue capacità poliedriche e la costante sensibilità verso i rapporti tra l’uomo, il costruito e gli elementi della natura. Tali rapporti emergono con immediatezza sia nei suoi disegni a schizzo realizzati per esprimere le idee progettuali, sia in quelli di analisi di stilemi paesaggistici a fondamento dei suoi studi, accomunati tutti da una rara attitudine a saper percepire e raccontare aspetti al di là della pura materialità dell’architettura e dell’ambiente. Il disegno stesso diviene di per sé lo strumento fondamentale per esplicitare ogni nodo caratterizzante che “firma” le sue opere, individuando una vera “anima” del progetto, il fulcro da cui si dipana l’intero sviluppo del costruito e del suo intorno, creando legami visibili e invisibili con l’ambiente e il paesaggio, con chiari legami alla cultura del Feng shui. Ed è proprio questo legame inscindibile disegno-progetto il protagonista di questo contributo. Quelli di Mondini sono dunque disegni che visualizzano con sicura incisività le sue idee e il declinarsi di modi di vedere e di interpretare la realtà circostante che vanno ben oltre il loro aspetto materiale. In essi, da quelli più curati a quelli più istintivi che delegano a pochi segni la comunicazione, si coglie quel valore del (di)segno che si ritrova ad esempio nell’operare di Renzo Piano, che egli riconosce dichiarando «Alla base dei miei progetti c’è sempre un’idea catturata in uno schizzo a pennarello». Giulio Mondini’s drawings have a soul: a soul that takes shape both in the plastic shapes of his projects and in his drawings themselves, finding life in the movements and vibrations of marks and colours that, with expressive and communicative ability, reverberate the lively change of his thoughts. The projects and drawings, but also the works of art that have been alongside his professional activity as architect and university professor of Valuation, testify his multifaceted capabilities and the permanent sensibility towards the relationships among mankind, the built and the natural elements. Such connections emerge with immediacy both in his sketches realized to express the design ideas and in his drawings for the analysis of the landscapes stylistic devices that were at the basis of his studies, all combined by an uncommon aptitude to being able to perceive and narrate aspects beyond the pure materiality of the architecture and environment. The drawing itself becomes the fundamental instrument per se to make explicit every characterizing hub that “signs” his works, identifying a real “soul” of the project, the cornerstone from which the entire development of the built and its surroundings unravels, creating visible and invisible bonds with the environment and the landscape, with clear links with the Feng shui culture. And this very inseparable connection drawing-design is the protagonist of this paper. Those by Mondini are therefore drawings that visualize with sure incisiveness his ideas and the declining of a way of seeing and interpreting the surrounding reality that go way beyond their material aspect. In them, from those more well-finished to those more spontaneous that delegate the communication to few marks, it is possible to catch that value of the drawing/mark that can be found for example in the works of Renzo Piano, that he recognizes stating: “At the base of my projects there is always an idea grabbed in a marker sketch”.
