The paper deals with the theme of living in areas that host nuclear plants. Even at the end of the reclamation, the nuclear sites turn out to be alien to the imaginary of the local communities. Due to historical precedents and a sense of widespread suspicion, the territorial closeness to these places is configured as a conflictual proximity, and often finds solutions in neglect. The paper, after outlining the current situation, investigates the possibility of re-opening these portions of territories to the landscape, to convert a proximity defined by boundaries into a new coexistence.

Abstract

The paper deals with the theme of living in areas that host nuclear plants. Even at the end of the reclamation, the nuclear sites turn out to be alien to the imaginary of the local communities. Due to historical precedents and a sense of widespread suspicion, the territorial closeness to these places is configured as a conflictual proximity, and often finds solutions in neglect. The paper, after outlining the current situation, investigates the possibility of re-opening these portions of territories to the landscape, to convert a proximity defined by boundaries into a new coexistence.
