Materiali coperti a Torino: materiali, caratteri costruttivi, stato di conservazione

Since the first half of the 19th century, the gradual growth of urban centres led to the construction of new functional buildings to house market activities. These were essentially utilitarian architectures, lacking in decorative features and revealing their technical and material aspects. The progressive awareness of the value of these buildings as evidence of material culture highlights the need to recognise and identify their values, linked to the materiality of the built heritage as well as to its functional and organisational aspects, and to promote their permanence over time. The present contribution intends to deepen the knowledge of the market structures erected in the city of Turin between the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, highlighting specific features, construction characteristics, and the current state of preservation.
