The essay analyzes the relationship between Kant's anti-colonialism and colonial civilization looking at the limits of his moral and political universalism. The conceptual link between human nature, progress and law is stressed in order to point out the bond between moral universalization and the force necessary to impose it. In the last part of the essay, this reading of Kant's thought is reconsidered under the light of post-colonial studies. © Società editrice il Mulino.
