The article schematically presents a scientific description of the criticalities induced by human activities within the ecosystem where the humankind lives in. The biosphere is described as a complex system and the inescapability of material constraints is recalled. The unsustainability of the unlimited growth paradigm is illustrated, both in terms of the finiteness of material resources and in terms of the inevitable collapse of the system. At the same time, an irremediable conflict is evidenced between the objectivity of the scientific analysis and the ideological representation, which borders on idolatry, of a social and economic paradigm that posits individual selfishness, unlimited growth and competition as its basic axes.

Abstract
The article schematically presents a scientific description of the criticalities induced by human activities within the ecosystem where the humankind lives in. The biosphere is described as a complex system and the inescapability of material constraints is recalled. The unsustainability of the unlimited growth paradigm is illustrated, both in terms of the finiteness of material resources and in terms of the inevitable collapse of the system. At the same time, an irremediable conflict is evidenced between the objectivity of the scientific analysis and the ideological representation, which borders on idolatry, of a social and economic paradigm that posits individual selfishness, unlimited growth and competition as its basic axes.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
